roamsplashimage-small.jpgThe ContourROAM is announced today. You can pre-order the Contour Roam from us here. We expect to have them in stouck around the 20th or 21st of September.

What's new with the Roam?

First of all, the price - it's the first Contour HD cam to be released at under $200. In addition the great price, Contour have made it a lot better than the the Contour HD that it's replacing:

New lens - the ContourROAM has a new F2.8, six element flush lens that is 170 degrees field of view (the ContourHD was 135). These are state-of-the art optics for an adventure camera. The lens rotates a full 270 degrees so you can mount the camera upside-down or on its side.

One touch recording - Gone are the separate power button and record button - now sliding the record button also turns on the camera. The result? better battery life - no more standby mode - and quicker capture of that elusive shot. This makes it much easier to operate the camera if you're wearing gloves.

Laser line - replacing the 'two dots' is a new laser line to check alignment of your shot

Status button - there's a status button to allow you to check card and battery status ans trigger the lasers

Integrated tripod mount - an industry standard 1/4-20 tripod mount is built in, as well as the amazing T-Rail mount system. This allows you to use a lot of standard camera mounts without buying an adapter.

Waterproof - the camera is IPX7 waterproof - that is, waterproof to 1 meter (3.25 feet) for 30 minutes. An optional case is available that will work to 60 meters (180 feet) for full time immersion applications

Built in battery - the built in battery has a lot longer life than previous Contour Cameras - preliminary numbers show up to 3.5 hours at 720p

Storyteller - the ConrourROAM uses the usual Contour StoryTeller application, making it easy to publish and show your adventures.

Crystal clear HD - the ContourROAM has three HD modes and captures stunning video up to 1080p (and of course 5 MP still shots).
